Sew A Longs & Quilt A Longs

Joining in sew-a-longs and quilt-a-longs are an excellent way to getting the spirit and camaraderie of swaps but being able to keep the projects for yourself! Here’s a list of all the ‘a-longs’ I’ve joined in since becoming part of the insta sew/quilt community. Cu rent ones are at the bottom if you are looking for something to join in.

I will update here when I join more, or even fingers crossed, finish one and blog about it!

Past Alongs

Gnomeangel’s  Tula Pink City Blocks Sew -A-Long (#100days100blocks)

I made it through the 100 days successfully posting a block every day. You can see all my blocks at #darrelrob100days. And, I even have 100 squares of tula cut for the backing. But that’s where this one stalled. I had hoped the 2017 repeat of this sewalong would spur me to finish, but alas it didn’t. Fingers crossed!

Nannycraft4u’s 9 Patch Sampler

This one was great fun. I powered through blocks 1-9 but then life got in the way. This is a great challenge for new quilters looking to review the basics and there are tutorials for each block. I’m looking forward to getting back to this one. Hosted on facebook

Gnomeangel’s Garden Snail Sew -A- Long

(#gardensnailsquilt #snailday)

This one hit a few road bumps, as it is now over but was originally a slow Sunday sew-a-long designed to run for most of 2017. Host Angie decided to wrap it up early, in part because of a lack of interest, which was a real shame. I have 29 snails made, (#darrelrobsnails) and the bodies for the rest of the cancelled snails cut out. I even have some of my finished snails quilted ready to be put together in the quilt as you go style. So hopefully this is one that I will finish soon!

Current Alongs

From Blank Pages‘ Rise Above QAL

I was lucky enough to be an email subscriber to Diane’s blog when my birthday rolled around and received the geometric version of her Rise Above foundation paper pieced pattern, so joining this QAL was a forgone conclusion! I’m aiming for a small quilt out of this. So far so good, with one block complete and the fabric for the other 8 planned. #darrelrobriseabove

Gnomeangel’s Tula Pink Butterfly Quilt Sew-Along

My latest addition.  I’m using the large tula stash I collected during the #100days100blocks QAL. This one runs through to the end of December, but it has a more laid back style than other Gnomeangel’s challenges, as it only needs one block to be posted weekly. #darrelrobtpbutterfly

Tinkerellen’s Pinnie Parade

This one is just so darn cute! One pincushion a day, for every day in August. My pinnies are at #darrelrobpinnieparade. It and the general tag #pinnieparade will be a great source of pincushion inspiration for months to come!

Meadow Mist Designs‘ Magnolia Mystery Quilt

Instructions come out monthly so this blind quilt a long will run until Feb 2018. Joining in this type of challnege is new to me, and I’m not sure if working without an understanding of the end goal will ultimately prove liberating or frustrating. I’ve committed to making the lap quilt size, so it’s kind of a wait and see thing.

I wish you a merry QAL

Hosted on facebook and via a multitude of blogs, I joined this one in part because of my new found interest in blind QALs and also because of my desire to use up my growing christmas stash (which also inspired me running my first block swap) It’s a fortnightly timetable making 12.5 in blocks. Fingers crossed!
