Darrel’s WIP 2017 Finish A Long wishlist

Q3 PROJECTS Darrel Rob
All 15 projects for Q3

On June 29th I engaged in a serious clean up on my sewing space. Fabric was folded, pins picked up and I even managed to unearth my sewing table. To make the task less arduous, I decided to have some fun taking pictures of all my wip in an attempt to get them back under control. Now 15 wips might not seem like it’s that ambitious over 3 months, until I remember that I have a similar amount of wips outstanding in my other crafty passions (bag making, knitting, project life, crochet and card marking). As a result, we are up around 100 projects….mmmm

Consequently, the focus this quarter is quilting, and I’m staying attentive to just on these 15. What follows below is a list of the projects, and hopefully, by 30 september this list will contain 15 hyperlinks to finished projects!

My list

1. Polaroid baby quilt (block making stage)

The original blocks from this wip I received during the #polaroidgreetingswap2. I tried to kick it along by signing up for the #polaroidsewalong2017 but only made it through week 1. Aiming for a baby size quilt with this one.

2. Dark souls / #dontbeadickquilt (plan/block making stage)

This one is destined to be a modified single bed quilt for a sailor mate currently deployed overseas. The front will be an 8bit dark souls themed image and the back will be a collection of dicks using the @molli_sparkles pattern

3. Born a Queenslander, always a sea gal at heart (pattern and fabric pull)

My first project that has nothing to do with swaps or challenges, or anything else. Just a beautiful quilt pattern, in a beautiful array of Karen Lewis fabrics, entirely for me! it’s highly likely this wip will be rolled over into next quarter, but one can dream!

4. Solids 9 patch sampler (block making stage)

These blocks form part of the 16 block quiltalong sampler run by Maggie (nannycraft4u) . Each block is a 9 patch, and I was on a roll with these blocks, but stalled a couple of months ago. Hoping to get moving again and maybe even experiment with some extra straight line quilting.

5. Icecream sunday fpp fun (block making stage)

This block which is 20 x 10 inches started life as a tester for Mel_is_a_swapaholic. I have two blocks complete – one quilted, and one pieced Still deciding whether both blocks will end up in the one quilt or not. Either way, this one will be finished as a quilt as you go quilt.

6. 100 days 100 blocks 2016 (quilting stage)

I met every single daily deadljne for the first #100days100blocks challenge lead by @gnonomeangel and then my commitment to this project died. I have 100 pieces of tula cut for the back, and a handful quilted. This really is a long-term project so any progress on it this quarter will be a win.

7. ‘just sew happy’ pillow (applique stage)

This center panel was originally destined to be the centre panel of my #mymodernroundrobin quilt, but a run in during my attempt to machine applique the letters down with metallic thread lead to a last minute change. The pattern is by Tied with a ribbon.  I don’t want to see this go to waste, so I’m thinking a pillow, or maybe a project bag…

8. Christmas milkshake stocking (construction stage)

This is another tester panel for @swapaholicpatterns. I made it up in christmas fabrics on purpose, as my plan this year is to make the extended family stockings. But to meet that goal I need to start like last month, so here’s hoping this one definitely gets finished this quarter!

9. Dwell Block Swap quilt (fabric pull / block collection stage)

I’m currently in the process of making 25 dwell blocks in bonnie and camille fabric to swap as part of @heartfullymade #summer2017bandcdwellblockswap. By the end of August I should have received 24 different designs, and in the hope of not ending up with blocks that sit around, I’m adding this here to motivate myself to work on the blocks as they arrive.

10. Christmas in July Economy block neonatal quilt (block collection stage)

The #cijeconomyblockswap is my first time hosting a block swap. The swapping stage will be complete by the end of july, and my aim is to turn the blocks I receive into a neonatal quilt.

11. Alice in Wonderland Heartfelt (top pieced, adding borders)

This quilt top is my biggest to date. I created it while editing and pattern testing for @verandah_crafts. It just needs borders added and then it will be sent off for quilting. Depending on the quilter’s timeframe, this might get pushed to the next quarter, but I have grand plans for a scrappy binding so it will be an excellent finish when we get there.

12. Pinwheel fun baby quilt (quilting stage)

In a unusual display of motivation, after participating in the #pinwheelblockswap, I took 9 of the 18 blocks I received and almost immediately turned them into a baby quilt. You can read about that quilt here. This wip is based around the remaining swap blocks. And as I hope to send them to @verysnugglyquiltprogram as a matching pair, this wip really needs to stay high on this list.

13. Snails!!! (block making /quilting stage)

I have been making these snails every sunday since the start of the year as part of the #snailday sew a long hosted by @gnomeangel. Pattern by @penandpaperpatterns. Due to the sew a long beingcut short due to lack of interest, the making of snails will wrap up on 30 July. I’ve started quilting some, and still have 4 snails to make. I’ve already started quilting my snails, though I’m still undecided about whether I will make just the cot size or go ahead and finish all the snails. I’ve got snail bodies cut to make the full 42, so that’s a consideration.

14. Aussie charms quilt (quilting stage)

With the charms I received from @bluemilli #aussiecharmsquareswap, I made a series of 4 blocks in rainbow colours. Backing fabric is a series of letter prints. My plan was to learn to free motion quilt on these squares and then join them using the quilt as you go technique. This one might end up in the too hard basket!

15.  Genny and ruth baby quilt (block making stage)

I started this quilt back in February when @keepsafequilts hosted the #virtualcharityquiltday. Relevantly, it’s the wip I’m most motivated to finish, as I intended it to have been sent in months ago. Two blocks are finished, the third is cut and the forth in blue still needs fabrics selected. But I do have the backing fabric!

Wish me luck! Moreover, if you are joining in, I’d love to hear from you here or on instagram
