This layout had me venturing far from my comfort zone colour wise. And while it was with a little trepidation that I embraced hot pink, ultimately I love it!
The layout documents my very first ‘designer’ purchase, during my very first overseas trip, at the Kate Spade flagship store on Madison Ave, New York no less. So, drawing inspiration from the sunglasses case in the photograph, I chose hot pink as the background using AC cardstock. I narrowly backed the photo in black card and then AC cardstock in orange. To create some interest, I added layers both horizontal and vertical around the top right of the photo.
As any aficionado of Kate Spade knows, black and white with pops of pink, in combination with all things strip or dot are very Spade! So I searched through my stash for anything that met this criteria. The papers are a mix of Heidi Swapp papers, We R Memory Keepers acetate, and Project Life 6×6 pads. I especially love the large polka dot paper that forms the bottom layer – it is a Heidi swap 12 x 12 minc paper that I foiled in rose gold.
In terms of embellishments I kept it pretty simple in order to avoid overpowering the papers. The gold glitter hearts are from Maggie Holmes Shine and the acetate ‘favourite’ is from Heidi Swapp’s new line (well new to us girls in Australia at least!)
Finally, in order to ground the whole layout I added thin strips of a black and white strip paper from the Project Life 6 x 6 Everyday edition paper pad. This then, somewhat coincidentally, created the perfect spade for my title.
So many amazing memories are captured for me within this simple photograph and I’m so grateful that long after the bag, wallet and sunglasses have been worn out or lost I will have this layout to record such a special time in my life.
